Sink the Kayak Tax!

There's a plan afoot to impose new fees on paddle boards, kayaks and canoes.

Really?! What's next? A tube tax on Ichetucknee? A surfboard tax in Cocoa? This has gone too far.

It is an infringement on my personal interests so the government can end up wasting more money.

Manufacturers pay federal excise taxes on boats, motors, and boating equipment. Fishing gear has the same. States get allocations of these funds for boating facilities, channel maintenance, education, etc. State distributes funds to the local government for these purposes. Why do we have to pay again?

It’s totally absurd and unnecessary.

It is crazy, just a money grab.

I already pay taxes on my kayak. I pay sales tax on everything I buy. I pay parking fees at state and county parks. I pay launch fees. I pay property taxes which funds the county parks. I pay gasoline taxes to fund the roads. I will not be paying another registration fee. If state and local government can not function on the taxes that it already collects, it needs to be pared down until it can.

Families/people are being taxed to death. Kayaking and paddle boarding are activities we can do without having lots of money. If they put a tax on these then some folks might not be able to afford these simple pleasures and activities.

Fed up with fees.

Our waterways were here millions of years before us and should stay free for us to explore, especially when using non-polluting vessels such as kayaks and paddleboards.

Putting a fee on river recreation ,exercise ,family adventures, EtC is ridiculous. Next they’ll require a licence for bicycling.

Kayaks cause little or no impact to the environment or expense to Hillsborough County. If this gets past the next thing they will want to do is tax you if you have a bathing suit. Vote NO on kayak tax.

kayaks, paddle boards, and canoes have minimal impact on resources, don’t need special facilities for launching, and don’t create hazards for the environment or wildlife. It would be as unfair as taxing any other personal and individually powered recreational equipment such as running shoes, bicycles, or skateboards. all waterways – rivers, lakes, estuaries, ocean – are open to the public. power craft that use the same waterways require launch facilities, mooring/dockage facilities, fuel, and licensing/insuring services which require construction and administrative capital that kayaks, paddle boards and canoes do not. imposition of a tax on paddle craft is unfair and another attempt by the state government to offset revenues lost from tax brakes to special interests by taking money from individual Floridians.

Kayaks are good! Kayaks should just float and move through the water without the unnecessary burden of taxation!

This is absurd!

We pay sales tax when we buy it. Its not motorized. And we pay enough taxes for the politicians to waste as it is.

Non motorized sports equipment should not be taxed. They never have been and it would be very difficult to track who’s licensed and who’s not. What about visitors from out of state?

Taxed enough already
