These changes have the practical effect of killing the bill, and eliminating the transparency that our economy and financial markets require for stability and sustainable growth.

It is also clear that Rep. Watt does not fear for his re-election, given his willingness to put the narrow interests of the banking industry, his top donors over the last decade, above those of the American people. I’m hoping you will be more responsive to the people.

HR 1207 has over 300 cosponsors in its ORIGINAL form. I trust you will use your influence to remove Rep. Watt’s changes, and bring HR 1207 to a vote on the House floor in its original form.

I’m also sending a copy of this message to my two Senators so that they too will know how important this HR 1207 is to me.

The idea of increased cost is simply not true. If we had to pay an increase in taxes, that would easily be offset by not only finally getting healthcare to those who cannot afford it, but by eliminating the inefficiencies of the current system through lower premiums, lower co-pays, no or lower deductions and lower pharmaceutical costs. The difference would be in the saved dollars that would not be skimmed off the top by insurance executives, stockholders, highly paid hospital CEOs, excessive pharmaceutical profits through greedy loophole use of patent laws and denial of generics, and, of course, excessive administration costs. Get rid of all the “for-profit” insurance, corruption and unnecessary middleleeches. Health is not a commodity that should be bought and sold on Wall Street by greedy corporate America. I am sick of corporate American’s consistently greedy “make money” attitude about yes, even healthcare. I wonder how many of these greedy people would watch a family member die in lieu of a buck. Believe me I know what I’m saying because I lost my son to leukemia when a bone marrow transplant was not covered under my so-called “better” private insurance.

The ONLY solution is a single-payer system. No, it is NOT socialized medicine. Why did Senator Baucus not allow any single-payer advocates a seat at the table for his hearings on health care reform? Why were 13 physicians and other advocates arrested for seeking a seat at the table? Are we living in a dictatorship now? Are “we the people” out of vogue? what is going on here – shall we ask the lobbyists OR OUR REPRESENTATIVES? Seems worse than Canadian “socialism” to me!

We need true health care in the form of a single-payer system. I have vowed that before I vote again in any election, I will know the healthcare positions of all those on the ballot and will vote accordingly. So, any candidate not for the people’s best interest where healthcare is concerned, will not receive my vote.
