Florida Agriculture Literacy Day
March 10, 2010

The 7th annual Florida Agriculture Literacy Day is scheduled for Tuesday, March 23, 2010 and you are encouraged to get involved by educating schoolchildren on the importance of farming. You can accomplish this by simply picking up a book.

green-farmsA new children’s book has been developed to support the Ag Literacy event. “Green Florida Farms” is a rhyming book written and illustrated by Gary Seamans and Mike Wright from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. It is a sequel to last year’s Agriculture Literacy Day book “These Florida Farms!”

In “Green Florida Farms” students learn how Florida farmers continue to develop “green” environmental practices that conserve the state’s natural resources while providing food, fiber and other agriculture products for Floridians and their trading partners.

Registration for Florida Agriculture Literacy Day has begun and is available on the Florida Agriculture in the Classroom’s Web site www.agtags.org. Books, lessons, packets for teachers, bookmarks and other materials for students will be sent out after registration.

Florida Agriculture Literacy Day is March 23 and the deadline to register to read on that day is March 12, 2010.
