Putnam adds another association to growing list of endorsements

Bartow, Fla. – The Florida Forestry Association has announced their official endorsement of Congressman Adam Putnam for Commissioner of Agriculture 2010. The association represents one of Florida agriculture’s largest industries, contributing more than $16.6 billion to Florida’s economy annually and creating over 130,000 jobs.

“The Florida Forestry Association has been very selective in endorsing a candidate for statewide political office. In our nearly ninety year history, I am only aware of a handful of candidates that have been given the nod. We are proud to add Adam’s name to that exclusive list, as it is vitally important to have someone with a working knowledge and record of fighting for agriculture and keeping Florida green,” said Jeff Doran, Executive Vice President of the Florida Forestry Association.

Florida forests cover more than 16 million acres representing nearly half of Florida’s landmass. The Florida Forestry Association is committed to stewardship of these vital resources in order to ensure that both producers and consumers will continue to be served by this important and useful agricultural commodity. The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services plays numerous roles in managing Florida forests, including managing over one million acres of state forests land.

“Forests are very much a part of Florida agriculture and play a vital role in the economy and green infrastructure of our state,” Doran said.  “Adam is quick to acknowledge the value of the industry and supports future growth which will encourage long term investment in this critical part of Florida business.”

“I am privileged to have earned the support of the Florida Forestry Association. We share a vision for the sustainability and growth of Florida’s forests as a key element of trade partnerships, economic development, renewable energy, environmental protection and more. I look forward to a strong partnership with our forestry stewards as we continue the homegrown jobs that are created by sustainable forests,” Putnam said.

Adam Putnam is a Polk County citrus grower and cattleman who has represented Florida in the U.S. House of Representatives since January 2001. He also served as a member of the Florida House of Representatives from 1996 to 2000 where he chaired the House Agriculture Committee. Adam’s candidacy has been endorsed by every agriculture organization that endorses in campaigns and 18 County Farm Bureaus.  Adam resides in his hometown of Bartow with his wife Melissa and their four children.
